City food, mountain landscapes and regional rail travel.
Taiwan offers lively cities, mountain scenery and coastal journeys. Taipei is a useful first base, with night markets, museums and convenient public transport. A longer itinerary can explore other cities by rail, but mountain and east-coast routes need separate planning rather than a simple extension of an urban stay.

Check the station nearest your hotel and which airport your flights use. Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport is outside central Taipei, while Taipei Songshan serves different routes. Include the full transfer in your arrival plan.
Summers can be hot and humid, and typhoons may disrupt transport and outdoor activities. Mountain weather differs from the cities. Follow local access notices for trails and parks, particularly after severe weather or earthquakes.
Rail can be useful for moving between major western cities. Reserve services where needed and leave time for local connections. Check current entry guidance and plan a balance of neighbourhood exploring, food stops and larger attractions.
