Alpine rail journeys, lakes and walkable cities.
Switzerland combines lakefront cities with mountain villages and scenic rail routes. Geneva suits a city-and-lake break, while the Bernina route crosses high Alpine scenery towards Italy. A rail holiday can cover several places, but the overnight stops and included train sections matter as much as the headline route.
A gateway to consider

Compare standard services, panoramic trains and seat-reservation requirements. Some itineraries use regional trains on a scenic route rather than a branded panoramic service. Check whether luggage handling and station transfers are included.
Mountain seasons differ from city seasons. Snow, trail access and lift opening dates vary with altitude; summer walking routes are not automatically suitable in spring or autumn. Keep flexibility for poor visibility or weather changes.
Swiss prices can make meal plans and transport passes important parts of a budget. Ask which local journeys and mountain excursions are included, and allow time for connections when combining Switzerland with neighbouring countries.
